Dark Color Nails
Having dark colored nails can create a very sophisticated, elegant and chic
look. Deep reds, violets and even black nails create a really special look
that really stands out. But applying dark nail varnish requires more care than
with the lighter shades.
When applying dark nail varnish you will also need a very steady hand. Dark
varnishes can also stain your nails quite badly so use of a basecoat is essential
to provide protection.
Having said that, let's now take a look at how to apply dark nail polish.
You can follow this simple 4-step system:
1. First of all, you'll need to carry out a basic home manicure procedure.
Once done, apply a layer of clear protective basecoat to the nails. Let the
basecoat dry for around 3 minutes. This will provide a firm foundation for
the color.
2. Start with a little finger. Apply the dark nail varnish with the applicator
working from the nail tip inwards. This will make it easier to avoid smudging.
To start with, apply a stripe of the varnish down the center of the nail, then
one stripe to either side. These will join up with and overlap the central
stripe. Don't put too much on the brush at one time - it will make a mess!
You should paint two or three thin layers, allowing each to dry before applying
the next.
3. When all the colored layers are complete, you will need to clean off any
stray varnish from around the sides and the cuticles. To do this, it is simplest
to use nail polish corrector. Alternatively, a cotton bud dipped in nail varnish
remover should do the job. Don't forget to remove any varnish which found its
way underneath the nail tip.
4. Finally, to provide protection and add a gloss finish, add a top coat of
clear varnish. If you wish you can also apply a few drops of liquid nail dry
to speed up drying. But remember that such quick-dry formulas usually contain
acetone which can damage the nails. So if you have time, consider letting your
nails dry naturally.
If you do end up with stained nails after wraring dark nails for a long time,
the stain can be removed by soaking them in a light solution of hydrogen peroxide
and warm water (use about one cap full of peroxide to a cup of warm water).
Then scrub the nails gently with a soft brush.
So there you are. A simple guide to owning sophistivated and elegant-looking
nails!
