French Manicure
The French manicure gives your fingers a clean, fresh look to suit all occasions.
It's a great look for weddings and for the summertime. It can take some practice
before you get it right, but the end result makes it worth putting in the effort
to learn the technique.
The following is a reliable procedure which should be asy to follow:
1. You should first carry out a basic self manicure to get the nails into
the required shape. Once done, apply a thin layer of clear protective basecoat
to the nails. Let the basecoat dry for around 3 minutes. This will provide
a firm foundation for the color.
2. Starting at the nail tip, apply white nail varnish. Do this by starting
at one side then sweeping towards the center of the nail in a diagonal direction.
Then do the same from the other side of the nail. The result is a V shape which
you can then fill in at the top. Remember, in a French manicure, you're only
applying the white varnish to the tip.
3. Once the white varnish is dry, you can the proceed to apply a sheer varnish
over the whole area of the nail. Use either a clear, pink or beige color
As an alternative to this method, you can buy self-adhesive pre-cut French
manicure guides which are installed on the nails, separating the tip from the
rest of the nail. This is a simpler option which ensures that the white varnish
doesn't go beyond the nail tips. Once set, you simply remove the guides and
apply the sheer varnish all over.
Yet another additional possibility, once the nails are dry, is to take a white
pencil and run it across the underside of the free edges of the nails. This
will accentuate the white tips even more.
